Top Android Cell Phones in 2011

1. Samsung Galaxy SII

Labeled by many reviews, blogs, and cellphone enthusiasts as the “World’s most powerful phone to date”, the Samsung Galaxy SII has already sold more than 3 million units in less than 3 months since it was released back in April 28, beginning in South Korea. It has toppled everything else on the list due to its souped up specs that no other mobile phone has obtained before. The Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor is now being developed by HTC, the Mali-400MP GPU is a unique offering from others that have GeForce or Adreno, and the memory is also unquestionable. Who would never know this side of Galaxy especially that this is the first phone to have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display that cannot be matched by any other competitor? Even the camera is on the lead, with rear 8 megapixels as a standard from other phones, but having an upped 2 megapixel camera at the front. Performance and visual quality just cannot be compared from any other at this time, except when other mobile phone companies go to the stretch to overpower the device. It also comes with Android Gingerbread to sugarcoat everything amazing.

The processor may be as same as the Atrix 4G, but wait till you notice the difference in its back operation memory. It has a 512MB RAM, but it holsters a huge 2GB ROM, more than enough space to make that Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor kick the speed to the highest. Already coming with an Android Gingerbread, you no longer need to line up for an OS upgrade. Despite of the size, the phone is definitely lighter than its predecessor, the Droid 2. The visuals are stunning despite not being AMOLED.

This power phone from Motorola is noted to be one of the hottest phones in the US due to its availability and sale in stores, number of accessories and gadgets supported, and of course, the visual capability multiplied by the ability of its inner specs to speed up every process, hyperdrive. And even though customers may get it on 2.2 Froyo, there have been OTA updates to have it hyped up into 2.3 Gingerbread, providing more to people who are looking for more.

To Full HD Or Not To Full HD

Anyone in the market for a new monitor invariably aspires for a Full HD panel. The excuse is the same: it's often cited that a large Full HD panel delivers higher "resolution", which in turn translates into better image quality. However, this is a common misconception. A Full HD display doesn't always deliver better quality. On the contrary, 1080p panels may even lead to a loss in image quality in certain cases. To know why, let's understand the difference between "resolution" and "pixel dimensions".

HP halts WebOS business, spins off PC unit

HP said today it will discontinue its WebOS operations as the company cut its outlook for the next two quarters. The company will also acquire Autonomy, an enterprise information retrieval outfit.
The company said it will discontinue operations for WebOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and WebOS phones. In April 2010, HP talked about doubling down on Palm and the WebOS. And that WebOS unit will cost HP some dough to discontinue. HP will also spin off its PC unit.
HP said that it will take a hit to fiscal 2011 earnings of $1.16 a share to $1.23 a share as it restructures and shuts down WebOS devices and related operations. There were signs that TouchPad sales were bleak, but a complete shutdown of WebOS operations was unexpected.

Google Buys Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion

Google announced Monday morning that it will acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion.
Motorola is one of 39 manufacturers of handsets that use Google’s Android operating system.
Buying a hardware company is an unusual move for Google. The acquisition, Google said in a statement, “will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem.”
Google CEO Larry Page expanded on what that might mean in a blog post. In addition to citing Motorola’s home devices and video solutions business, Page references recent patent wars that Google believes to be anti-competitive.
“The U.S. Department of Justice had to intervene in the results of one recent patent auction to ‘protect competition and innovation in the open source software community’ and it is currently looking into the results of the Nortel auction,” Page writes. “Our acquisition of Motorola will increase competition by strengthening Google’s patent portfolio, which will enable us to better protect Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies.”
