Google doodles London 2012 Artistic Gymnastics Men's Rings

The Olympics Google doodle for London 2012 Artistic Gymnastics Men's Rings shows a mustachioed gymnast performing. The two Os of the Google logo are formed by the rings. The London 2012 Artistic Gymnastics Men's Rings doodle is the fourth Google doodle this Olympics.
On Monday the doodle on the Google home page showed two fencers fighting against each other using bladed weapons. The letter 'L' in Google was shown as one of the bladed weapons being used by one of the fencers, while a helmet on the head of a fencer is modishly depicted as the first 'O'.
There have been three previous gymnastics doodles posted by Google - one each during Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Only the Sydney gymnastics Google doodle depicted the gymnastic rings.

London 2012 diving: The 3rd Google doodle of its kind

London 2012 diving Google doodle is the third time the sport has found itself in focus as far as Olympics related doodles are concerned.
The first archery related Google doodle was on September 20, 2000, day 6 of the Sydney Olympic games. The doodle depicted a kangaroo diving head-first into the water, with just part of the kangaroo's legs visible.
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, eight diving events were contested for the first time due to the inclusion of synchronised variants for each of the traditional events. The competition took place at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre, from 22 to 30 September, comprising a total of 157 divers from 42 nations.

As expected, Google is continuing its tradition of Olympics doodles with the London 2012 archery doodle.

On Friday, the Google doodle had celebrated the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The doodle 5 athletes playing different Olympic sports.
Google has a rich history of Olympics related doodles.  In 2008, there was a doodle celebrating the opening ceremony of the Bejing Olympics on Aug 8, 2008. This doodle showed the five Beijing Olympics mascots - BeiBei, JingJing, HuanHuan, YingYing and NiNi - carrying the Olympic flag.

Google adds a 34-button virtual scientific calculator to search

Many of us use the Google search bar for uses far beyond the usual search for Web pages - for weather information, stock quotes, time in a particular city, sports scores, unit conversion, quick calculations and more. Google has now added a 34-button visual tool to simplify our use of the search engine as a handy calculation tool.
To fire up Google's new 34-button virtual calculator with scientific functions, type 'calculator' into the search box. This new Google feature is available across most browsers (both web and mobile).
The virtual Google calculator will also appear if we type in a calculation - say '13*6' - into the search box and can also be used for more complex calculation needs such as '25*39+(sqrt 10)^3'.

The Basmati phone runs on Uncle Ben's proprietary, and entirely gluten-free, Long-Grain Operating System. To keep users entertained at all times, dozens of stir-fry recipes have been pre-loaded.

GTalk down: Google Talk outage affects 'majority of users'

Exasperated users unable to communicate via Google's instant messaging service, popularly known as GTalk, are venting it out on the not-so-private communication services such as Twitter and Facebook.
If Twitter updates are an indication then the latest Google Talk outage has affected users the world over.

Many users have reported that their Google Talk contacts have disappeared while many others say that their messages are not reaching the intended recipients.

Twitter may finally let you download your old tweets

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told reporters of The New York Times that the microblogging site is developing a new tool that will allow users to download a file to recover all their previous tweets.
Costolo said, "We're working on a tool to let users export all of their tweets. You'll be able to download a file of them."

He further added that while users will be able to dig through their own tweet archives, there are no promises of a feature that will allow them to access all the tweets posted to the site from every user.
Currently users can only search for the last few thousands of posts. Other third-party sites like TweetSaver backs up most of a user's tweets along with private messages and replies from other users. But it's a paid service.

Samsung To Launch New Device with Flexible Display

Flexible display is one of the most interesting mobile phone technologies of recent times, but the thing about it is that we haven’t seen it actually implemented on a handset or tablet. That might be changing soon, according to a report from DDaily, a South Korean site.

This report states that by the end of Q3 2012, Samsung will release its very first device that includes the company’s Youm flexible display. This device will purportedly arrive literally at the end of the third quarter – late September, to be exact.
But here’s the thing about the flexible display – the report added that the flexible display will be protected by a decidedly non-flexible glass screen. In other words, it would be a pseudo-flexible display, one that looks like it’s flexible but actually isn’t.

Google doodles the aviation heroine's 115th birthday

Seventy five years after her disappearance and 115 years following her birth, Google is honouring the pioneering American aviator (and author) Amelia Earhart. The aviation heroine's end still remains an enigma.

The doodle on Amelia Earhart's 115th birth anniversary shows her climbing up her Lockheed Vega 5B monoplane, Earhart's yellow scarf fluttering in the wind.
The Google letters take the place of the original registration number of the Lockheed Vega 5b - NR-7952 - painted below the wings of the aircraft.

Samsung Galaxy S3 hits 10 million sales mark early

Samsung's chief executive predicted last month that sales of the Galaxy S3 would hit 10 million by the end of July and the smartphone appears to have passed that milestone a little early.
Shin Jong-kyun, the president of Samsung's information technology and mobile communication division, told reporters that the Android-powered smartphone surpassed the 10 million sales mark but did not reveal specific sales figures, according to the Yonhap news agency. That translates to about 190,000 Galaxy S3 devices sold every day for the past two months.
Samsung's flagship handset, which is available through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, is one of the most sought-after smartphones on the market. Last month, Sprint announced that "overwhelming demand" had forced the carrier to delay the handset's June 21 launch.

Apple, Google appeal Posner's toss-out of patent case

Apple and Google have appealed a ruling by U.S. Circuit Judge Richard Posner that flat-out dismissed an iOS and Android-related patent case between the two companies.
Both tech giants filed appeal notices yesterday regarding the June 22 ruling, Bloomberg reported. Posner had canceled a jury trial over the tit-for-tat infringement claims, saying neither company had been able to prove damages and that neither would be allowed to refile claims in this particular case, which has been lurching along in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois (Chicago).
The two companies have been duking it out over their respective mobile OSes for some time now, as Apple "goes thermonuclear war" -- in the words of Steve Jobs -- on Android and the device makers that rely on the software. The struggle is taking place in various countries and courtrooms around the world.

Google doodles Gustav Klimt's 'The Kiss' on his 150th birthday

A painting of a couple kissing is the theme of the doodle on the Google home page on Saturday. The Google doodle commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt is a reproduction of his most famous work - 'The Kiss'. Some of Gustav Klimt's paintings rank amongst the most expensive in the world.
'The Kiss' is a 1907-08 oil and gold leaf on canvas painting that many believe to be Gustav Klimt's only self-portrait.
Klimt born on July 14, 1862 in Vienna was the son of a goldsmith and spent much of his childhood in poverty. He trained at the Vienna School of Decorative Arts. He had a liking for gold, silver and marble in his creations but not all his patrons could afford his expensive creations.

How to Make All Browsers Render HTML5 Mark-up Correctly – Even IE6

HTML 5 provides some great new features for web designers who want to code readable, semantically-meaningful layouts. However, support for HTML 5 is still evolving, and Internet Explorer is the last to add support. In this tutorial, we’ll create a common layout using some of HTML 5′s new semantic elements, then use JavaScript and CSS to make our design backwards-compatible with Internet Explorer. Yes, even IE 6.

Quick Overview of HTML 5 Elements
The HTML 5 Working Draft provides a new set of semantically-meaningful
elements for describing a typical web page layout. Using elements that are “meaningful” (i.e. describe the content they contain)
makes it easier for you to read and organize your code, and makes it easier for search engines and screen readers to read and
organize your content.
The HTML 5 elements we’ll be using are:
header
footer
nav
article
hgroup
Just by reading the names of the elements, you should get a pretty good idea of what they’re for, and that’s the point!
You can now stop abusing <div> in all your tableless designs, and instead make headers out of “<header>”s and
footers out of “<footer>”s.

Coding a CSS3 & HTML5 One-Page Website Template

Web development is an area in which you have to keep up with the latest technologies and techniques, so that you are at the top of your game.  And no wonder – this is an area which changes with an amazing pace. What is the standard now will be obsolete in just a couple of years.
But changes do not come from nowhere. The early adopters are already using what we are going to use day-to-day a few years from now. One of these technologies is HTML5 – the new version of the fundamental language of the web.
Today we are making a HTML5 web template, using some of the new features brought by CSS3 and jQuery, with the scrollTo plug-in. As HTML5 is still a work in progress, you can optionally download a XHTML version of the template here.
